The Horizontal Section
Wall Cabinets
The horizontal section shows how to layout the hybrid faceframe and create inset doors without changing your system of faceless construction.
Note the end panel, which can either be built as a 1 1/2" th panel or it can be built as a 3/4"th panel where the face stile would over lap the unfinished end of the case.
Note the 450 cut on the inside corner stile, this stile would be 2 1/4" w. at the back. I illustrated attaching the stiles with wafers, you could use dowels or any other method.
You should try this out with a mock up before you layout your cabinets. Corner cabinet door clearance can be tricky.
Base Cabinets
The base cabinets would have a layout similar to the wall cabinets. To achieve a rail look on base cabinets, I raise the height of the toe kick to 4 3/4", then add a moulding similar to the light molding on the wall cabinet. It is attached 'under' the cabinet bottom. It could also be attached 'even' with the bottom of the cabinet.
Note: Using rails on base cabinets is a counter productive proceedure. It cost more for the customer and it reduces the usable space, for the drawers. (a double negative that doesn't equal a positive). A narrow 3/4" to 1" accent rail can be used at the top of the base cabinet covering the top stretcher, this also has a great look. When this is explained to clients they usually go with the hybrid design.
