Attention New Application Notes
To keep the EuroButt II faux hinge secure I have to recommend using a small nail to keep it in place. I will explain the simplest technique and offer pictures so you can see what I did. Many of you have already figured this out and have completed your own process, thank you. On the next production of EuroButt II, we will have the hole already in the side plate, with a small nail. You won't see the nail because it is behind the hinge arm.
After you read the text below you can go to the pictures for a visual, or just go there. Cabinetmakers will know what to do.
Clamp a piece of wood (about 1 1/4'' wide, 24'' long, 3/4'' thick) to the drill press table, with the 3/4'' edge up. Clamp the piece so that you drill a 5/64'' hole 3/8'' from the back edge of the side plate, with the barrel of the hinge against the edge of the piece of wood. This will make sure you don't nail into the hinge cup. I recommend a 5/64'' hole because the drill bit is stronger than a 1/16'' drill bit, which tends to break. You can put a mark on the edge of the piece of wood so the hole is always in the same place. The barrel against the edge of the piece of wood will always align the hole in the other direction.
I will be providing the small nails with each order.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this glitch. Drilling the hole and setting the EuroButt II with a small nail is STILL WAY quicker and more sane than using a butt hinge.
Installation Notes
Try a mockup of the hinge situation you will have first
#1EuroButt II works best with an inset hinge application. Either with a full overlay plate and an inset hinge, or with a half overlay plate and a half overlay hinge. #2EuroButt IIcan be set with the barrel past the front of the door, just like the traditional butt hinge. The back of the barrel must be tight against the face of the door. Use a 3/32’’ gap between the door and case style
#3EuroButt IIcan be set with the barrel recesed from the front surface of the door. By cutting a small chamfer or cove to recess the hinge barrel.
#4EuroButt IIcan be attached to the case style instead of the door. You can use a tighter gap between the door and the case style with this application.
#5
EuroButt IIworks with blind corner and cross corner hinges.
#6
Note; #6b, If you have a full overlay hinge situation, install the EuroButt II on the case style, or #6a, leave a 3/16’’ space behind the door to the unfinished case side. This requires you to layout your cabinets using a door thickness measurement of 15/16’’ but using a 3/4’’ thick door. This is to allow clearance for the hinge barrel.
